Larkfield BI builds custom stuff for Power BI, starting with the visuals we wished existed. After two decades of building reports, we kept hitting the same walls, and decided to build our way over them.
We didn’t get here in a straight line. We took the long way round, quietly building data systems together, on and off, for two decades. Every stop taught us something we still build into the work today.
We cut our teeth managing data in Excel, with far too much clever VBA holding it together.
Access gave us our first taste of proper databases. A natural urge to store more led straight to SQL.
Pulling from source systems, writing views and stored procedures, and building our first real reports in SSRS.
Then data warehousing pulled us all the way in: cubes, tabular models, and endless ETL pipelines in SSIS.
When Power BI arrived, we jumped ship almost immediately, and spent years pushing what it could do.
We fell for notebooks and lakehouses, took our first steps into Fabric and PySpark, and kept making things faster.
Constantly tweaking and improving, we eventually ran out of road.
So we started laying our own. Larkfield BI is where that road leads: custom solutions, built from real experience.
Between us we’ve spent two decades in data, and built our expertise the way most people actually do: on the job, solving real problems. That hands-on experience goes into everything we make.
A data engineer with an illustrator’s eye. His degree in illustration is quietly behind the way our visuals look and feel, and he’s happiest sweating the small design details most people never notice. Away from the screen he dreams up imaginary traps and monsters to spring on his Dungeons & Dragons group, and spends his time drawing and building Lego sets with his daughter.
Happiest when a report actually changes how someone works. He has a knack for solutions that are easy on the eye and genuinely useful, helping customers untangle problems and turning raw data into something that means something in the real world. Off the clock he's feeding a stubborn case of wanderlust, whether that's a trip abroad or just getting out for a run. The rest of the time you'll find him with his kids, or putting the world to rights over a pint with his mates.
We still ship real reports every week. Everything we make has to survive our own work first.
Everything we build starts as a genuine frustration we’ve felt, not a feature list dreamed up on a whiteboard.
Our free visuals stay free: no trials, no expiry, no nag screens. A promise, not a funnel.
When you write to us, you reach the people who built the thing. We look after what we make.
